“People respect community radio more after listening to Asia Calling on our station.”  That was the comment made by one of the participants at a workshop organised by Asia Calling together with the Cirebon Branch of Community Radio Network (Jaringan Radio Komunitas – Jarik). Attending the workshop, which took place on Sunday, 26 July 2009, in the Fahmina Institute Building, were 30 broadcasters and managers from 17 community radio stations across the Cirebon area.

People in Paniai district can now listen to community radio Wagadei again, after almost six months off air due to electricity supply and crew issues. Although the power supply problems are not completely resolved, the five-strong Wagadei crew are now able to broadcast around 5-6 hours a day, after five days of in-house training with PPMN trainer Radot Gurning, mid July.

The training covered radio news production, broadcasting techniques, and developing joint programs with government, NGOs and other partners. It also motivated management to keep the station on air, whatever the circumstances. Wagadei Station Manager, Yunus Sefnath Uti, explained that as well as relaying KBR68H programs such as News Update, Evening Bulletin and Papua News, the station also broadcasts a local news program called Kabar Seputar Paniai, or Paniai News.
